On June 23rd, 2019, just a few short weeks after the Space Venus sculpture by Salvador Dali was unveiled at Lot 19, it was “robbed” from its integral part: the “GOLDEN EGG” was taken.
Few days after this happened, an unlikely hero appeared in the form of a local sculptor and Salvador Dali fan who offered to cast a bronze replacement egg for free of charge. His name is RICHARD FORBES who worked two months tirelessly to create the egg, thus allowing the sculpture to be visually restored to its complete state.
The shiny bronze egg
currently on view is an exact replica of Salvador Dali’s bronze egg and it is
installed on the sculpture only temporarily. After the sculpture returns to
Europe, the egg will be substituted by an egg cast from Dali’s original mould.
