DEFINITELY DALI 2019 – SCULPTURE EXHIBIT

A COLLECTION OF
SALVADOR DALI BRONZE SCULPTURES

In 2019, we will welcome, again, a collections of spectacular sculptures to Vancouver, among them two large-scale bronze sculptures, to be placed on public display for the enjoyment of all residents and guests to the city. Before landing in the Port of Vancouver in early May, the sculptures will have traveled over 20,000 kilometres. After boarding the ship in Italy, they will cross the Atlantic Ocean, go through the Panama Canal, graze Central America, skim past Mexico and the California Coastline and sail along the West Coast, to finally reach Vancouver. That’s a long way!

This year, the Definitely Dali Exhibition spread out over multiple locations. While Space Venus will be placed at Lot 19, another large scale sculpture, the majestic Dalinian Dancer, will be available for viewing at another outdoor location, at Thurlow and Alberni Street. Both sculptures are the cornerstones of our annual Definitely Dali exhibition which features over 100 original works of art by the legendary Surrealist Master, including 20 gallery size bronze sculptures. On exhibition in the gallery, you also find an exceptional collection of works by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.

The magnificent Space Venus, will be exhibited in the Downtown Vancouver Heritage District, at Lot 19 Public Space, at Hornby and West Hastings Street. From May to September, Vancouver residents and visitors will have unrestricted access to one of the most iconic sculptures of the Modern Masters. This sculpture alone is an amazing perk for the city, but there is so much more!

For the first time in Vancouver, you have the chance to experience
a Salvador Dali sculpture come to life in Augmented Reality through state-of-the-art technology. Thanks to Alex Lazimir, the gallery managed to develop a dedicated app – downloadable for both, Android and iOS systems – that integrates the dancing figure of the sculpture into the world around you.
Just bring your smart phone and watch the transformation!

The Definitely Dali Project was first introduced to Vancouver in 2014, as a means to expose Vancouverites to exciting, historic, world class, fine art. The mandate of the Project is to ensure that new and future generations may continue to experience the magic of the great Spanish Surrealist master, Salvador Dali.
Viewing of the exhibition has always been presented with no charge to the public.

“ART IN THE CITY FOUNDATION”
As the Definitely Dali Project grows, so the scope of the responsibilities expands. This means the framework of the project has reached a new level which lead to the birth of the non-profit society, called F.I.N.E. Art in the City Foundation. The mandate of the Foundation is to exhibit world class art in cities’ urban areas, with special focus on internationally known artists. The mission is to create free public access to these works of art and to engage individuals and communities to learning more about fine art.
