At Chali-Rosso Art Gallery, we’re thrilled to showcase this exciting new addition to our collection: Inuit Art! This newly introduced selection of art brings a fresh perspective to our gallery, complementing our celebrated works by historical masters like Picasso, Dalí, Miró and Chagall.
Discover the Magic of Inuit Art
Hailing from the Arctic community of Cape Dorset—now called Kinngait, often dubbed the "Capital of Inuit Art"—this collection showcases the extraordinary talent of Inuit artists. Renowned for their vivid printmaking and striking sculptures, these works weave together stories of Arctic wildlife, mythology, and the resilient spirit of Inuit life.
In Inuktitut, the Inuit language, one word for art is ‘isumanivi’—meaning “your own thoughts.” Each piece is a window into the artist’s imagination, using techniques just like great historical Masters, like etching, lithography, stonecut an stencil.
A Legacy of Creativity
This collection owes much of its global recognition to Kinngait Studios, Canada’s longest-running print studio, established in 1959 as the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative. For over six decades, it has empowered local artists to share their heritage with the world, releasing annual print collections that captivate collectors and art lovers alike.
What to Expect
Step into our gallery and immerse yourself in a world where tradition meets surreal imagination. You’ll find prints depicting everything from majestic Arctic creatures to dreamlike scenes rooted in Inuit mythology. Paired with our existing collection of Modern Masters, this addition offers a unique dialogue between cultures and eras—perfect for anyone who cherishes art’s power to connect us.
