Magritte plays on our expectation by adding a surrealist twist, by inverting reality: the clouds are in the bird silhouette, instead of the sky. The colours are sky blue, white and turquoise.
René Magritte was a world renowned Belgian surrealist painter. His most famous work is undoubtedly the Treachery of Images, that bears the text "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" under the realistic depiction of a pipe. Art is merely imagination and imagination was Rene Magritte's strength in his search for reality he utilized recurring visual elements in his paintings including the man in the bowler hat or the cloud theme.
