Original LithographCreated in 1975Image size: 19" x 13.5"Paper size: 28.5" x 20.75"Hand signed in pencil lower right and annotated H.C. lower left. The numbered edition was 75. There was also a plate signed edition with no individual pencil signature by the artist.Reference: Maeght/Mourlot, "Joan Miró Lithographs" Vol. V., No. 1070The composition drawn by Miró under the title ‘Maravillas con variationes acrósticas en el jardín de Miró’ was inspired by the poems of Rafael Alberti. His writing was greatly admired by Miró and other Spanish artists of that time. Rafael Alberti is considered one of the greatest literary figures of Spain - a member of the Generation of '27' - who won numerous international prizes and awards. Because of his political beliefs, he went into exile after the Spanish Civil War and returned to Spain only after the death of Franco.Miró created bold chalk-like images in which the arrangements of forms and colours are abstract deriving from the subconscious - the same way as the pattern of words in the poems.Miro's garden can be understood as an allegory for his "playground" where he constantly created and re-creates the visual representation of his mind and soul.
